How much to feed dog?
In general, your poodle pup needs to be fed 4 times a day up to 8 weeks of age and 3 times a day through 12 weeks of age. Reduce it down to twice a day when your puppy turns 16 weeks of age.
Your puppy needs a puppy, not adult, dog food. Continue to feed your pup puppy food until she is 6 months to 1 year old, then gradually switch her over to adult dog food.
If your poodle is on a raw food diet, he needs fed twice a day – once in the morning and once in the evening.

If you’re using a crate as his bed, never put food in his crate. His bed needs to be clean, and he needs to learn to eat at his bowl in a specific place.
Feeding Guidelines
When to feed dog? Feed an older dog, over one year of age, once or twice per day. Watch for excessive itching in your dog after meals which could be a sign of food allergies.
You can break your poodle’s food allotment into 2 meals a day, this is probably better for her than feeding once a day. Feed her an adult dog food which is more balanced for her than puppy food.
Feeding twice a day is a good option for toys and standards. It can prevent bloating in standards and keeps the toy’s blood sugar from dipping low.
Suggestions
The toy’s metabolism is higher than the standard’s and his stomach is smaller. Two meals for the toy and small breeds of dogs helps keep them nutritionally balanced.
To keep from getting a finicky eater who snubs her nose at dog food, leave food in her dish for 15 minutes. After that time, take it away whether it’s eaten or not.

This teaches him that he’ll be fed at a certain time, then dinner time is over at a certain time whether he’s done or not. He’ll eat his dinner the next time instead of holding out in hopes of something better!
Sizes, Active or Inactive
A standard poodle will need more food than a toy. Other things to take into consideration on the amount to feed your poodle include how active he is and what his metabolism is like.
A couch potato will pack the pounds on more easily than an active dog and shouldn’t be fed as much.
As a guideline on how much to feed dog and puppies, your toy poodle will eat between 1/2 to 3/4 cup of food daily, the miniature 1 cup, and the standard 2 to 3 cups.
You can weigh her every few months at home (check with your vet to get an optimal weight estimate) then decrease her food intake if she seems to be gaining weight over a healthy weight.
